When it comes to marketing an idea, it is important to understand the target population and know what will spark the interest in the product. From the image to incentives, one must market themselves, and their product, in the right way to encourage and stimulate interest.
Image: In sports marketing, it is all about giving off the right image. Not only does someone need to have the proper facts in their repertoire, but a promoter needs the appropriate image to go along with the knowledge to have people completely buy into what they are saying and selling. If you live what you are promoting, then no one can ever question the benefits or whether it works. Be a walking advertisement! In the fitness world, if someone walks into a gym hoping to hire a personal trainer, the client will not take the personal trainer seriously if they do not look the part. If the personal trainer looks sloppy or unfit, the client will not buy into what the trainer has to say because it is apparent that the trainer does not live it or believe it himself.
Incentives: By providing incentives at a workshop or lecture, more people will be enticed to come and spend part of their day listening to you. It does not have to be an elaborate or expensive item; however, the incentive should be a well-conceived idea that relates to the topic being promoted. Something as simple as a small sample of your product, handouts with information, or even pens with a company logo will get people to remember you and your product. For example, in a workshop about the benefits of fruit and vegetable juicing, perhaps have the presenter show the proper way to juice and provide samples of their juice for the attendees. The sample does not have to be abundant, just enough for a taste or to leave a lasting impression on the people attending.
Promoting a product is only half the battle. In sports marketing, understanding your target population, fitting the proper image for your product, and keeping people interested with incentives are just a few ways to get interest in your item. Walk the talk to bring in the interest!
Very accurate!
