Where it stands as of now

Where it stands as of now

Well it’s halftime during Super Bowl 50, as Cold Play performs I thought I would take this time to reflect on where the game stands. They say Defense wins championships and these big games are usually impacted by key special team plays.

It's halftime: here’s a Super Bowl 50 update.

With 7:23 left in the 1st quarter, the NFL’s most current and problematic issue made its appearance within the game’s biggest stage. Remember we also addressed this issue in my last blog; the distinct catch or “no catch” rule. Carolina Panthers receiver J. Cotchery bobbled a pass from quarterback Cam Newton. The ruling on the field was an incomplete pass. After replays brought this call into question, Panthers coach Ron Rivera immediately challenged.1 It appeared as though Cotchery was able to get a hand underneath the football and maintain control while going to the ground. Yet, the referee’s call stood as an incomplete pass after it failed to meet the NFL’s standard for reversal as they stated he failed to complete the catching process.

Other noticeable plays thus far are the Von Miller sack and fumble resulting in a Bronco Touchdown, Peyton Manning’s interception off of a firezone blitz, and Demarcus Ware’s big sack to close out the half. In between which, we were also able to witness the longest punt return in Super Bowl history by Broncos J. Norwood for 61 yards.2

Interesting to see what plays remain to have an impact in this one. On a side note, what a great halftime performance in this year’s Super Bowl; making a statement as maybe one of the most entertaining in years. Super Bowl 50, taking on the role of recapturing the history of this great sporting event from throughout the years.
