Competition is an Installment in the Circuitry of Human Nature

Competition is an installment in the circuitry of human nature. It drives the race to greater heights and pushes the survival of human existence. Thus, as a pragmatic fact, individuals will separate themselves accordingly. There will be those who reach the greatest of heights and those who miss the opportunities to do so. Let readers not be mistaken, we do not  live in a world where everyone is given the golden star. This blog will intend to address this theme of, competition, as the sports world prepares for the competitive push into this next month and college basketball’s March Madness.

“Selection Sunday is the day when the NCAA men's and women's basketball committees determine which teams have made the field for the  year's basketball championships. Selection Sunday in 2016 will be on Sunday, March 13th”.1 The indication that there is a selection process speaks volumes into the direction of this very conversation. Selection Sunday can very well be interpreted as ‘Separation Sunday’.

There are three phases to the process to determine the 68 teams for the tournament:
I. Select the 36 best at-large teams;
II. Seed the field of 68 teams; and
III. Place the teams into the championship bracket.

SELECT, SEED, PLACE…are you beginning to catch on? In sport, very much like the real world, we are measured against one another. Regulations take place in the fairest measurement possible; who’s the best and so on. The interesting aspect in regards to this year’s tournament will be who exactly emerges to the top. Currently, for the sixth time this season, college basketball has a new No. 1.2 With such heavy competition, this year’s tournament has fans anguishing in anticipation. A tournament which will surely bring forth the best of all its competitors; with at the end, only one team able to step forth as a champion.
March Madness, we welcome you.
