Superfoods


Oxford dictionary defines superfood as “A nutrient rich food considered to be especially beneficial for health and well being”.

Fruits and vegetables are usually considered superfoods because of few calories and huge amounts of vitamins and minerals. Below are few superfoods that could be incorporated in the diet without much effort:

  1. Oats- Oats are extremely high in soluble fibers which aid in gastrointestinal health. They  contain antioxidants which help lower cholesterol while improving  metabolism.
  2. Broccoli- This vitamin and mineral packed vegetable contains disease-fighting compounds and is is exceptionally high in vitamin c and folates.
  3. Salmon- It is a complete protein loaded with Omega-3 fatty acids which aids in lowering cardiovascular diseases.
  4. Spinach- It is a very strong anti-inflammatory and antioxidant densely packed with vitamins and minerals. It is excellent for vision and bone health.
  5. Eggs- A large egg is 6 grams protein and only 70 calories. It contains all vitamins and minerals.
  6. Almonds- Vitamins in almonds are in very concentrated form. It contains a huge dose of iron, calcium, potassium, Vitamin E and magnesium.
  7. Pumpkin- It is an excellent source of Vitamin A and is a powerful antioxidant. Useful in eye health.
  8. Lentils- Inexpensive form of protein. It also contains good amounts of iron.
  9. Beans- They are loaded with protein, fiber , magnesium and folates. They help reduce cholesterol.
  10. Quinoa- These grains are packed with nutrients. No only does it provide nutty flavor, it contains all nine essential amino acids and protein1.
