Kickers and Punters, Know The Difference

Kickers and punters both use their feet to perform their skill. They usually are the ones wearing soccer cleats instead of football cleats and are standing on the sideline majority of the football game. They only take the field after a touchdown to kick a field goal/extra point or when the offense cannot score, to punt it away.  Their duty as a member of the team is rarely used compared to other positions but it’s very critical understanding the 3 types of kicks being addressed: a field goal kick, a kickoff, and a punt.
The Kickers position is more offensive inclined.1  A kicker’s job is to kick the football between the goal post and adding points to the scoreboard if he succeeds.  A made kick is worth 1 point if they kick an extra point after a touchdown or it’s worth 3 points if they kick one through when the offense fails to score.  A field goal distance is calculated by adding 17 yards more from where the ball is being snapped from.2  The endzone is 10 yards and the kicker/holder are set 7 yards behind the snapper, which is where the ball is set from.2
Field goal
Punters are on the field on 4th down when the offense couldn’t advance 10 yards or if they are too far to kick a field goal.  The punter is on the field for the offense’s last play before turning it over to the opposing team1, but punters are considered to be the players that set the tone for the defense because where the ball lands is essentially where they defend from.  The farther the punt goes, the farther the opposing team has to move the ball to score.
Punt
A kickoff can be done by either the kicker or punter, usually the kicker.  A kickoff is applied to start off the game or a half- when one team kicks it to the other, or after a team scores, that same team  kicks it off to the opposing team.
Kickoff
Specialist (Kickers and Punters) always are considered to be different, but this article is just a simple elaboration of how Kickers and Punters are different within themselves.
