When it comes to weight loss it is easy to get discouraged. Many setbacks are guaranteed to occur on a person’s journey to weight loss. Anyone who has been down the weight loss highway will tell you it is not an easy drive but the scenery at the end is well worth the trip. As a personal trainer, I understand the struggles from both a professional and personal viewpoint. Here is my weight loss story.
Four years ago, I weighed 280 pounds. I went through the fad diets and searched for workout routines in body building magazines. I had some success, but it was inconsistent. My weight and progress fluctuated which hindered my ability to see which routines were actually working. Over time I found that the key to success was my steadfast determination to become healthy and change my habits. Today I feel great and weigh a healthy 190 pounds!
Below are a few tips to help you on your weight loss journey:
- Eat for life. Any calorie restricted diet will yield weight loss but in the end you have to find what works for your lifestyle. A healthy diet should be one that you can maintain for a lifetime.
- Embrace strength training. Lifting weights will help you maintain lean muscle. Remember the goal is to lose fat not muscle. Try to lift weights at least 2-4 days per week.
- Kick up the cardio. Aerobic exercise should not be feared; find what you enjoy and mix it up often. Try to engage in 30-minutes of moderate intensity cardiovascular exercise at least 3-5 days per week.
If you follow these tips and are consistent, you are guaranteed to succeed. But remember that good health is a life-long journey.

ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your personal story Cody! I too have struggled with my weight, and like you said, it is very discouraging, when you work hard, and don’t see changes as soon as you hope to. Many people would tell me about crazy workouts, and diets to try to get the weight off, but after working had for weeks at a time, and not seeing the scale change, I became frustrated. After hearing that you found what worked for you during your weight loss journey, and having the passion to train others, is very encouraging. I too, after many years, have found that Consistency really is the key to seeing change, and being able to keep the weight off. Keep up the good work!
