Physical Education Gives Moral Support

Moral development is a very important aspect of public education. Teachers in public schools have the opportunity to teach good morals to their students each and every day. In fact, Physical Education in public schools provides the perfect opportunity for teaching kids good morals and developing good habits through games, sports, exercise, and various other activities. These all require interaction with other students through competition and play. Kids get to learn how to treat each other with respect, to work together as a team, and to display good sportsmanship. Games and activities that take place in a Physical Education setting seem to be more beneficial for developing good morals. While the classroom setting is a good place to teach respect and other good character traits, the gym can be even more beneficial in simulating everyday life due to its informal setting. Therefore if a child can learn how to properly treat others in an informal place, then will they not be more likely to treat others properly in a formal place, such as a classroom or doctor’s office?

  1. I like that you bring up that P.E. is an informal setting, and a great place for students to learn. If a teacher can get through good morals among all of the chaos, then it is more likely that they will stick with the students and they will be able to adapt these good moral values to whatever situation they are placed in. Since good moral values are needed, not just when a student is sitting still, placing an importance on them while students are focuses on movement and other things is a great way to help their future.

  2. I love the line "While the classroom setting is a good place to teach respect and other good character traits, the gym can be even more beneficial in simulating everyday life due to its informal setting" because this is so true. Some lessons are better taught outside the classroom. I feel that teaching these character traits in a competitive setting such as a PE class also helps to lock in their value use for later in life. Some things that are learned in a classroom setting tend to leave our minds quickly but PE is a place you can learn it and practice these traits almost immediately.

  3. I like the comment that you said, “Kids get to learn how to treat each other with respect, to work together as a team, and to display good sportsmanship.” Those are the characters of good morals. You have to start teaching the youth at an early age. Great work!
