NBA Playoff Talk

March is over; with it, the closing of the NCAA March Madness Tournament. As of last night, the men have completed Final Four play. In the men’s division, only the University of North Carolina Tar heels and Villanova University of Pennsylvania remain. The women’s teams conclude tournament play today with Final Four match-ups between The University of Connecticut Huskies (1 seed) versus The Oregon State Beavers (2 seed), and the Washington Huskies women’s basketball team (7 seed) squaring off against (4 seed) The Orange of Syracuse. What to expect here in the end? Only the unexpected of course. The tournament this year has done as much to live up to its name as any other season. With huge upsets of number 12 seed Yale defeating number 5 seed Baylor, number 11 seed Northern Iowa defeating number 6 seed Texas, number 15 seed Middle Tennessee defeating number 2 seed Michigan State, and number 12 seed Arkansas-Little Rock defeating number 5 seed Purdue1; madness stood the tale of the tournament once again. This is the sort of expect the unexpected excitement that makes this tournament and the journey to the Men’s and Women’s NCAA Basketball National Championship worth it every year.

Yet, as the tournament comes to an end, we as sports fans have little to worry over. Our need for sports, developing stories, breaking news, cheers, heartbreaks, beers, sports parties, and 60” flat-screens for games will live on as NBA playoff coverage and games begin. Yes, the NBA playoffs are just around the corner, starting this month, April 16th. So to my fellow sports fanatics do not stress, you only need to make the transition from cheering for your favorite college squad or Alma Mater to cheering for your favorite professional team or family favorite. Teams such as The Golden State Warriors, San Antonio Spurs, Oklahoma Thunder, and Cleveland Cavaliers2 will now become the talk in every social conversation of, “did you see the game last night?”. Thus, rest at ease sports-nation, buckle in, and prepare as more basketball and dreams of championship titles continue.

  1. I have never been a hardcore basketball fan, until playoffs come around. I love sports, every and any sport but if it's one that I am not interested in watching, playoffs will get in excited. Being a sports fanatic I can always look forward to a new season of a new sport after any given sport's season is over!
