NFL Combine

NFL Combine
Upon last week’s blog, covering athletic competition in sport, we continue upon the topic with special interest towards this year’s NFL Combine. The NFL Scouting Combine is a vital event in the path to the draft. More than 300 prospects will participate in the 2016 combine in their quest to achieve their NFL dreams.1The event is put on in Indianapolis at Lucas Oil Stadium. The Combine and coverage continue through Feb.23-29. Let’s look back at a line I stated within my previous blog; Competition is an installment in the circuitry of human nature. We went on to discuss how within competition, not everyone who competes is a winner. We learned that it is in this measurement that individuals excel and separate from one another.

Today I introduce to some of you the ultimate measurement day, in which is, the NFL Scouting Combine. This 6 day event measures, quantifies, and has the power to decide the fate of more than 300 prospects who have awaited their whole lives for this one moment. For, it is within this moment that the ultimate opportunity is placed before them in ways that could change their lives forever. Yet, as it was written, too whom much is given, much is required of. Here, at this gate, leading to the professional football organization; much is required.
Athletes will be poked and stretch, tugged and pulled, questioned and quizzed, and pushed and driven too exhaustion.2Much of which, happens days before they are too be televised and put before Pro Football Coaches in deciding a sort of “pollice verso” (the Latin term which roughly translates to “turned thumb”).3 Where in the Roman times Gladiators were given life or death. Perform and compete well in the on-the-field-drills of the NFL Scouting Combine and live to see another day in your dream to be a professional football player in the NFL.

  1. It is an extremely stressful few days that the players have to endure, but with the success of many late round draft picks and undrafted free agents in the NFL, do you think that sometimes the combine can be overrated?

  3. Great article, I believe that the combine is one of the biggest events in the lives of college football players pursuing their dream! It's a long process that bring stress and much anxiety, but it can also be fun. But what if the athlete isn't good at testing but can play the game, will he ever get a chance? It's a game but also a business.
