Morale development in physical education

Physical education is ever increasingly becoming a thing of the past as schools around the country continue to cut P.E. to try to save money. I believe that P.E. should be kept in schools.
It is a huge part of helping kids mature, not only physically, but mentally as well.
Physical education teaches kids the basic skills for many team sports that later help them to learn concepts such as teamwork, responsibility, accountability and other things that can help that kid feel better about themselves.
Physical education should also be used in as many ways as possible to ensure that kids can develop a healthy morale.
Teaching kids to be confident in their self and they’re abilities, not only in sport related activities, but also in life as a person who can contribute to society is essential in setting that child up for success.
Developing a child’s morale at a young age will help them make smarter judgment in a situation that deals with ethics, learn to take orders from a superior or future boss and give them an intrinsic motivation to contribute in group settings.
Having a strong developed morale is key to success later on in life and I feel that PE is a great platform to develop this part of our psyche at a young age rather than trying to develop this later in life and relearn life long habits that have already been established.

  1. I firmly believe in the final sentence; once character and habits are installed it is extremely difficult to "unlearn what you have learned" (Yoda). Physical Education is a great platform because everyday that young child/young adult will be confronting a situation that requires a decision based off of virtuous morals.

  2. There are a few very good statements in here - one in particular is the fact that physical education does help kids to mature both physically and mentally. I believe the mental aspect of developing a healthy self-esteem is as important as a physical healthy lifestyle. Indeed, PE is an awesome platform to develop moral values necessary for living a functional life in the future.

  3. I love that you mentioned that PE helps to develop a child’s intrinsic motivation. This is so true. I have actually seen this myself when going through student teaching. A child can be having a bad day, but PE gives them an opportunity to turn that day around. The fact that physical education is even being mentioned as being on the chopping block is very disheartening. Taking this much needed class out of a child’s curriculum could be detrimental to a child’s physical health as well as their emotional health. It is imperative that fitness majors everywhere come together to stop such a thing from happening.

  4. agree that it is wrong that Physical education is ever increasingly becoming a thing of the past as schools around the country continue to cut P.E. to try to save money. You must put in the money to better the students. P.E. may be getting overlooked because they have not put enough time into it. Take some money to help build up physical education. Great work!
