High Minded Success Through Physical Education
As a coach I believe Physical Education
plays a key role of influencing student’s moral development. From kindergarten
through 12th grade, students have the opportunity to train their
mind through leadership, cooperating with others, and accepting responsibility
for their own behavior. Learning moral
development through physical education can also help students in society
develop proper attitudes and behaviors towards other people, which will help as
students’ progress through their lives. One
thing that I have seen more and more as a coach today is that students seem to
learn morality better when they are in groups, and what better way to teach it then
by teaching them in physical education classes.
Some people may think that physical education only develops students’
skill levels, but when you look at the overall picture, it truly helps develop
character.
Physical Education should not be
a crutch for moral development. Physical Education should be a driven factor in
moral education. Through physical education, coaches are able to teach students
the basic right from wrong, which has a huge impact on their lives. Students should
develop good behavior, leadership, and character over time, which should lead
to great communication skills and a life time of success.
I like your statement to begin the second paragraph about PE not being a crutch but a driving factor in moral education. Physical education teachers comprehend what it takes to be successful in society and are able to use different methods through group teaching, competition, and wellness in developing moral values. One priceless value to be taught should focus on how to interact within a group setting because the majority of life is about relationships. Great comments to end your blog as well related to a lifetime of success.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was interesting that you noted young people learning morality better in groups. It made me think about all the other areas of public education that emphasize the individual. Ideas like "keep your eyes on your own paper" and "try your best" center on each student separately. Physical education--arguably more than any other subject--allows for and relies heavily upon the group and interaction within it, where morality is really shaped.
ReplyDeleteYou stated that physical education leads to great communication skills and a lifetime of success, and I completely agree. This is especially true in team sports. Communication is one of the main things emphasized. If individuals do not work as a team, they cannot win. Physical educators need to help students reach their potential, encouraging them to become well-rounded and improve overall health. This cannot occur if the teachers do not emphasize morals. The values learned in a physical education will continue throughout the children's lives.
ReplyDeleteI like the fact that you said Physical Education should not be a crutch for moral development. Physical Education should be a driven factor in moral education. It needs to be the back bone to the success of moral development. There are things in life that help increase the development of moral. There are things you can do to help your future. Great publish.
