Community Organizations
Many people are unaware of organizations that exist within their own communities to support the citizens. It is important to be informed so that when a person is in need others can point them to the help that is available. Organizations exist to support citizens in all aspects of their health (physical, mental, social, environmental, and so on). The School and Community Health class experienced first hand one of the many activities available at the Senior Center in Stephenville - wow! Stephenville has some fantastic, healthy and active senior citizens! Additionally the class visited the WIC center and will hear an additional speaker on mental health.
Based upon your experiences with these community organizations, how has your perspective grown or changed in regards to community organizations? What did you gain through these interactions?

Facility/Community Health Analysis - Let's Create Improvements
In order to promote healthy living, it is important to first understand the community and facility. If a community wants to become healthier or a facility wants to make its environment more wholesome for its employers and customers, an analysis of the current situation is necessary. What is being done now, and does it work? What are the needs of the community, the customers, the employees? An analysis must take a step back and look at the whole picture (people, environment, opportunities) surrounding the situation.
Based upon the analyses being completed for the School & Community Health course, please answer the following. What are you noticing in your community/facility evaluation? Why should that be a concern for health?

Layers of health
When hearing the word health, several "pieces" come to mind. Some might say that health is the absence of disease or that it is the physical and emotional well-being of a person. Even with various definitions, health involves multiple aspects. The School and Community Health class felt that health could involve aspects such as working out, diet, lifestyle, sleep, and spiritual state of mind. Which aspect of health (listed or not) is the most important to maintaining health? Explain why it is the most important.

Comfort Zones are Overrated!
A year ago I took a leap of faith and boarded a plane that
took me to Rhode Island where I studied under the famous track guru Rob
Lasorsa. I was there for 4 days and left with over 20 new networks connections
with other coaches across the United States, some high school and some college.
This year I took a
bigger leap and landed in Philadelphia at the gorgeous Villanova University
campus. I decided to take a coaching course through USTFCCCA and get certified
as a throws specialist. This course was 5 days long and worth every penny I
spent. Within those 5 days, under the 3 most elite throws coaches in the United
States, my mind was blown with information and in the best way possible.
Everything I had wanted to know as a new coach had been answered and gone into
great detail by these great instructors. This year I left Philadelphia with 208
pages of knowledge that I will carry with me through my entire coaching career
and over 50 new networking connections across the United States.
The point of all this is me telling you to get out there and
explore. There are so many organizations that offer these courses in your area
of interest. You just have to be willing to look for them and then take the
leap of faith. I traveled alone, was it scary? Absolutely, but it gets easier
each trip I take and after each trip my self-confidence gets boosted a little.
I believe in myself a little more than I did the time before. You are capable
of extraordinary things and extraordinary opportunities are knocking at the
door, you just have to be willing to answer. Not only do I walk away feeling
more confident in my career but I also have increased my professional
development and networking bubble. I connect and get to keep in contact with
these coaches across the United States, ask them for advice throughout my
season and one day when the time is right they will help me get my dream job.
In the coaching industry so much is about whom you know and how many connects
you have that will land you your dream job. So get out of your comfort zone and
go explore. Comfort zones are overrated anyways!
